Quercetin features in Defence so we wanted to share a little more with our ingredient focus on this nutrient. Quercetin is a flavonoid found in many foods such as apples, green tea, onions and berries. Interestingly, capers are also extremely rich in this compound!
Quercetin is known for its antioxidant activity in scavenging free radicals with studies reporting its activity relating to:
- Stimulation of the immune system
- Antiviral activity
- Inhibition of histamine release hence its anti-allergic properties
- Anti-inflammatory activity through decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines
- Beneficial effects on the gut environment through modulation of the intestinal microbiota profile
Quercetin has been much more widely researched in recent years and we are proud to feature this ingredient as a key nutrient in Defence.
